Bihar Exit Polls Hint at NDA Edge, But Margin Narrows

So here’s the thing—another exit poll has rolled in, and it’s saying what we’ve pretty much heard all week: the NDA’s got the lead in Bihar. But this one? This one whispers it, not shouts it. The margin’s slimmer than your patience on a traffic-clogged Patna evening.

The Numbers Game: What Each Survey Is Saying

Vote Vibe, the latest player tossing its hat into the prediction circus, reckons the NDA might bag somewhere between 125 and 145 seats in the 243-member Assembly, where 122 is that magical “we’re in power” number. Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan (the grand alliance) is expected to walk away with 95 to 115 seats. As for Prashant Kishor’s brand-new Jan Suraaj Party—well, the forecasts are… modest. Some say they won’t even open their account, and others kindly throw them two wins for effort.

Now, this makes it the tenth exit poll out, and by now it’s less about who’s winning and more about how close it might get. The smallest edge before this came from Chanakya Strategies—they had the NDA floating between 130 and 138 seats. A couple of others (People’s Insight and People’s Pulse) gave them around 133 on the lower side. The outlier? Matrix. They went wild—147 to 167—a landslide prediction that brushes two-thirds majority territory.

NDTV’s own Poll of Exit Polls—basically a big blender of all these numbers—pegs the NDA at 146 and the Mahagathbandhan at 91. Jan Suraaj? Maybe one lonely seat somewhere. Maybe not even that.

Exit Polls and Their Uncertain Record

Of course, the standard health warning applies—exit polls have the accuracy of weather forecasts during monsoon. They’ve been wrong before, and spectacularly so.

NDA’s Comeback Story: Four Wins on the Trot?

Still, if Friday’s real numbers mirror this mood, it’ll be yet another shot in the arm for the BJP-led alliance. Remember how things looked post-Lok Sabha? Not great. But then, the NDA bounced back—holding Haryana, routing AAP in Delhi, and clinging to Maharashtra. If they pull off Bihar too, that’s four revivals in a row.

Which, honestly, wasn’t expected. Nitish Kumar’s been around two decades—minus a short nine-month break—and the chatter was all about anti-incumbency. Twenty years is a long time for voters to get itchy. But going by these polls, the itch hasn’t turned into rebellion. The opposition’s vote seems split—some with the Mahagathbandhan, some drifting toward Kishor’s Jan Suraaj experiment—and that division’s been the NDA’s lucky charm.

The Ground Buzz—Unemployment, Housewives, and Long Queues

Here’s a little nugget that stood out from Axis My India’s data: 49% of unemployed voters apparently went with the Mahagathbandhan, while 48% of housewives leaned toward the NDA. Pretty telling, huh? Bihar’s politics often swing on who shows up in numbers—and this time, everyone did.

Tejashwi Fires Back: ‘These Polls Are Psychological Tactics’

Tejashwi Yadav, the face of the Mahagathbandhan and RJD’s young leader, wasn’t buying any of these forecasts. “We don’t live in false optimism, nor in misunderstanding,” he said, his tone calm but firm at a press conference in Patna. He even chuckled (well, almost) about how some exit polls were dropping while people were still voting.

He’s got a point. Imagine this—people were standing in serpentine queues till 6, even 7 PM, still waiting to press that EVM button, and TV screens had already started flashing graphics saying, “NDA heading for victory.” It’s like calling a cricket match at halftime.

Tejashwi argued these polls weren’t just premature—they were psychological tactics. “They release these to influence officials and shape public mood,” he said, sounding equal parts frustrated and defiant.

And he didn’t stop there. He poked holes in the methodology, too. “Ask anyone showing these numbers—what’s your sample size? What’s your criteria? They won’t tell you, because it hasn’t been made public.” Fair question, really. Exit polls often parade numbers without revealing how the math was done.

“Change Is Coming”—Tejashwi’s Hopeful Pitch

According to Tejashwi, his alliance ran its own informal pulse-check after voting, collecting direct feedback from people leaving the booths. His verdict? “Overwhelmingly positive.” He even said it felt better than what they’d heard back in 1995—a bold comparison, considering that was a very different Bihar.

“Everyone’s voted in large numbers against this government,” he claimed. “This time, change is definitely happening. Results on the 14th, oath on the 18th.” There was a half-smile when he said it—the kind of smile that says, “Let’s wait and see.”

Pollsters Keep Guessing: More Data, Same Story

Other agencies, of course, had their own flavors of prediction soup. Dainik Bhaskar, for one, placed the NDA between 145 and 160, Mahagathbandhan between 73 and 91, and Jan Suraaj somewhere in the 0–3 range. Matrize (yes, the over-enthusiastic one) again shouted 147–167 for the NDA and 70–90 for the opposition. People’s Pulse, playing it slightly safer, gave 133–159 to NDA, 75–101 to Mahagathbandhan, and a polite 0–5 to Kishor’s party.

For the record, exit polls are built on field interviews—voters are asked outside polling stations right after voting. Agencies claim these samples represent the mood, though no one ever quite agrees on how representative they actually are.

And, to be fair, the past is littered with cases where exit polls completely missed the mark—reading landslides where there were hung assemblies, or vice versa. Sometimes they get it right. Often they don’t.

The Countdown Begins: Bihar Awaits Verdict Day

So now, all eyes turn to Friday, November 14, when the real counting begins. By midday, Bihar’s political air will either buzz with “I told you so” smugness from the NDA camp or hum with shockwaves from a surprise Mahagathbandhan surge.

Either way, the stage is set—tension’s thick, microphones are charged, and studio anchors are probably practicing their “historic moment” lines already.

Politics in Bihar, after all, is never dull. It’s part drama, part math, and part pure gamble.

And like every good desi family gathering before a big result day, everyone’s already picked sides—the NDA loyalists, the RJD hopefuls, and a few fence-sitters just waiting to say, “See, I knew it!”
