Chaos Erupts Near Chandni Chowk After Evening Blast

According to the local reports, the explosion occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the area of a parked car outside Gate No. 1 of the Lal Quila (Red Fort) metro station, directly across from the crowded Chandni Chowk market. Witnesses described scenes of chaos, screaming, and thick smoke rising from the vehicles engulfed in flames.

Witnesses Describe Horror and Panic at the Scene

“The tremors could be felt hundreds of meters away. Buildings shook like during an earthquake,” said Sanjay Bhargava, president of the Chandni Chowk Traders’ Association. “Bodies were lying on the road—someone’s arm in one place, someone’s head in another. It was horrifying.”

Fear Spreads Through Old Delhi as Shops Shut Down

Bhargava added that panic spread rapidly through the old market district. “Shops shut within minutes. The roads were jammed up completely. People were desperate to leave—running toward parking lots, shouting for their families. Chandni Chowk hasn’t seen this kind of fear in years.”

Videos circulating on social media showed multiple cars burning near the metro station as commuters and bystanders fled. Delhi Fire Services officials said they received the first call shortly after the blast and immediately dispatched seven fire tenders to the scene. “Nearby vehicles caught fire. The blaze has been contained, and cooling operations are underway,” an official confirmed.

Delhi Police and NSG Commandos Take Control of Blast Site

By nightfall, Delhi Police and NSG (National Security Guard) commandos had cordoned off the entire area. Black-clad personnel could be seen inspecting debris while bomb disposal units combed through the wreckage. “We are verifying the nature of the explosion,” said a senior police officer at the site.

Investigators Probe High-Intensity Vehicle Explosion

Authorities have not confirmed whether the incident was accidental or deliberate, though sources said the pattern of damage suggests a high-intensity blast originating from a vehicle. Forensic teams are expected to release preliminary findings later tonight.

Metro Gates Sealed, but Train Services Continue Normally

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said entry and exit from Gates 1 and 4 at the Red Fort metro station have been temporarily restricted. However, train services on the network continue to operate normally.

Photographs from the site show rows of police vans, ambulances, and fire engines parked along the narrow lane leading to the fort. Twisted car frames, blackened tarmac, and shattered glass litter the street. The nearby pedestrian stretch toward Chandni Chowk—normally packed with evening shoppers—was deserted except for flashing red lights.

At least eight people were confirmed dead, with twelve others injured, several of them critically. All victims have been rushed to nearby hospitals, including Lok Nayak and Aruna Asaf Ali, for treatment.

Delhi Placed on High Alert Across Metro and Market Zones

Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has ordered heightened security across major metro stations, markets, and government buildings. “The city is on alert. We are monitoring all sensitive locations,” an official said.

The Red Fort metro station, part of the Violet Line, lies on the road connecting Delhi Gate to Kashmere Gate—roughly 1.5 kilometers from Jama Masjid and 2 kilometers from Old Delhi Railway Station. The area remains one of the capital’s most crowded zones, especially during the evening hours.

As night deepened, sirens still echoed around the fort. Streets once bustling with vendors and tourists were sealed off with police tape. The city, caught between fear and confusion, now waits for answers—what exactly happened, and why.
