United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has engaged in significant diplomatic efforts, holding separate phone calls with India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday. Guterres condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which tragically resulted in 26 deaths, primarily tourists. This attack has significantly escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. 💔

The UN Secretary-General's strong condemnation comes against the backdrop of Pakistan's claims of "credible intelligence" suggesting potential Indian military action within the next 24-36 hours. Pakistan's information minister, Attaullah Tarar, accused India of planning action based on "baseless and concocted" allegations related to the Pahalgam incident.🛡️

During his call with Shehbaz Sharif, Guterres reiterated his condemnation of the terror attack and emphasized the critical need for a transparent and neutral investigation. Sharif called for justice and urged the UN to facilitate a resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UNSC resolutions, while asserting Pakistan's commitment to peace and its readiness to defend its sovereignty if provoked. In his conversation with India's Jaishankar, Guterres conveyed his deep concern over the escalating tensions between the two nations. Jaishankar acknowledged the UN's condemnation and reaffirmed India's determination to bring the perpetrators to justice, stressing the importance of accountability. 🇮🇳🇵🇰
